About Our Family...

Annie and Winnie Wrestlemania 2018!
My name is Megan Jacobs. I own "Winifred", and her 2 daughters "Rogue" and "Pearl". Winnie and Rogue are our current mama dogs here at SSS and miss Pearl is our beautiful up and comer!
Stunningly Sweet Standards LLC.
I am a Certified Veterinary Technician that has worked in the Veterinary field for over 16 years. I have a passion for, and am specializing in canine dentistry and reproduction. My girls (dogs) frequently come to work with me and get the best medical care available.
Currently, my fuzzy family consists of myself, my husband Kyle, our 5 year old Standard Winifred, our 3 year old Standard Rogue, our 7 month old Standard Pearl, our 4 year old Rat Terrier cross Buddy and our 14 year old cat B.B.! Together we live in the beautiful city of Salmon ID!
My love of the Standard Poodle came around about 7 years ago, when I met my first one at a local sporting goods shop. He came to work with his owner every day and was so friendly and very handsome, his hair was so soft, and he followed me everywhere. So I began to research the breed.
Some big reasons I chose the Standard was 1) They are a 'normal' sized dog, and I was always used to that because I've always had labs. 2) They are extremely intelligent (2nd smartest dog breed in the world next to the Border Collie), and I love participating in obedience and agility for fun, which Standards excel in because of their smarts and 3) They are minimal shedders and have very low dander, because despite my profession, I don't like everything covered in hair!
So I decided to give the breed a try, and it's the best choice I've ever made

About Our Process

Annie and her 1st litter, only 24 hours old.
I want to stress that I am not a 'kennel', or a doggie 'condo'. I do not 'mass produce' poodles. I have only 2 wonderful girls that are mothers at this time and one spayed girl. I believe that if you have tons of dogs you can't give everyone the one on one attention they need. This way, I can ensure everyone gets counted as an individual family member, not just 'another dog' to increase my breeding numbers.
I choose the healthiest girl to have future litters with the healthiest male. As of now, I will only have 1 litter a year, so everyone gets my undivided attention as they grow, because they deserve it. When I pick out my next girl, and she becomes of proper age, I may have 2 litters a year.
I keep my girls in the best shape and health, mentally and physically, with love and activity. Being a C.V.T., having the knowledge of Veterinary Medicine, a love for the breed, and working in a Veterinary Hospital, I feel it is my duty to provide people with the best cared for, and healthiest puppies I possibly can...

'Annie' and her daughter 'Chanel' born in 2016
...so I begin with heath testing my girls to make sure the most genetically healthy litter will be produced. I then choose only the healthiest male with acceptable health test results. I then provide the mother with the smoothest, most stress free, and nutrient enriched pregnancy I can.
When the mother is 23 days into her gestation, I palpate her to confirm pregnancy. When she has reached 35 days gestation, I do an ultrasound to detect beating hearts. And at 45 days I do an x-ray to determine how many pups she may be expecting...

Nap Time!
When the 'big day' arrives, I don't interrupt the natural process of things. I'm there for the mother to help her if anything goes wrong. I stay with her, comfort her, and make sure everything is going smooth, and usually, she does everything herself, without any hiccups, with only the help of mother nature and thousands of years of instinct...

The puppy mealtime pinwheel is a tradition around here!
As the pups grow I am always checking for health issues like, hernias, teeth problems, or other things. I begin vaccinating at 6 weeks old and de-worm myself, listen for heart murmurs and track growth.
I spend tons of time with all the puppies to help differentiate personalities in order to help put the right puppy with the right family. Once vaccinations begin, I allow socialization with other people and other healthy dogs, this gives the puppy a much more confident attitude once they leave home. At 7 weeks old all pups come to work with me and one of our doctors checks over the litter to give them all a health guarantee to be ready for their new families.
